UKF interview – Moments in Time

Updating my website to include recent interviews around my LP ‘Moments in Time’….

When Part 1 of my album was released in November I spoke to Dave Jenkins at UKF for a good hour or so about the album and my life leading up to it. Editing it down into this coherent piece is one of Dave’s greatest achievements as a journalist. This one goes pretty deep at times, and there were some dark times during the making of my album, but you need these life lessons to push you forwards.

Babylon Sound

Babylon Sound artwork

My latest EP is a very special one for me – written with my close friends Bredren and on a label that has been pushing my sound since the very start, Flexout Audio.

We wrote the EP over the course of a long weekend last December, via visits to Innersoul and 1985 nights to soak up some vibes and the DnB Awards to celebrate it’s completion and soak up some rum! Four tracks that sum up what we love about drum & bass music and really demonstrate our sound – the Babylon Sound.

The response to the EP has been absolutely amazing, huge thanks to you guys out there supporting. Our launch party was rammed out and full of vibes, and the EP is selling so well that we have poked our head out from the world of DnB and are currently chilling with the house and techno boys in the Top Ten Releases all-genres on Beatport  – up at #7 a few days back.

Babylon Beatport #7

Amazing for a release that is 4 no-nonsense steppers on a label outside what would be considered the ‘big labels’ of our scene. Again, thanks everybody supporting. If you haven’t got the EP yet have a listen above and you can purchase it on Beatport:

The Night Bazaar – interview and mix

Screen Shot 2017-10-21 at 02.29.42

A few weeks ago I spoke to Ash from The Night Bazaar about music and life. This is one of the most honest and in-depth interviews I’ve done for ages (in other words, rambling a load of old shit) and we touched on all sorts of topics.

I also put together a new mix, featuring a collection of new music that excites me and of course a few old favourites. I feel like it’s one of the best mixes I’ve done for ages, I really enjoyed planning and mixing it. Have a read of the article, check the mix, dance to the new music….

Drum & Bass Arena interview and mix

Maja from Drum and Bass Arena got in touch to talk about my 100th release, my remix of ‘Facade’ by Facing Jinx. It turned into a discussion on all sorts of topics including Jinx’s stag weekend and wedding, my development as an artist/producer, some information about my new project Phil:osophy, why I love DJing so much, and how to make all your food taste better.

Read the full interview here: https://breakbeat.co.uk/interview/philth-100-tunes-deep-and-counting/

I have also put together a new mix. This is a snapshot of some exciting new music and what I have been playing in my recent club sets. Of course that means a handful of late 90’s bangers are sprinkled across the mix – showing my age!

Facing Jinx – Facade (Philth remix)

Facade (Philth remix) Artwork

My next release is a big one for me… it’s the 100th track I have released, and it is on the label who gave me my first opportunity many years ago…..

My first release was a pair of tracks called ‘Miss Understanding/Hidden Beauty’, written with Facing Jinx in the shed at his Mum’s house. We stayed up till 6am getting the first one done and knew we were onto something. They were picked up by a label in California called Peer Pressure Records, and this was the first of many collabs with Jinx, but more importantly the basis of a great friendship – I’m the Best Man at his wedding on Friday.

Around 8 years later, and Alex is now the label owner and I deal with A&R, socials, checked shirts, etc. To have the opportunity to plan my 100th release on my own label is a blessing. To be able to release my 100th track on the label where it all started, and share the release with my best mate, is really very special to me.

And I wanted to release something special for my 100th track. I always loved Facade but felt like I could give it a lift and push it in a harder direction. And a few hi-hats in the intro wouldn’t hurt either eh Alex….

I’ve been playing this everywhere over the last year, and now it’s time for you to play it everywhere.

Facade remix is available exclusively from our Bandcamp store. Sentimental speech sold separately.

New agent – Steve @ Bassic

After 3 happy years working with Jack at Empress Artists I was made an offer I couldn’t refuse – a spot on The Bassic Agency roster. I want to thank Jack for all the hard work and great gigs, and now I’m really excited to work with Steve and the Bassic team for all future shows.

We have got some nice gigs lined up already, but plenty of spots in the diary, so if you want me at your event get in contact with Steve:

Hannah Eve ‘My Heart Knows/For Sam’ is #1 on Beatport!

Today is a special day. The first single from Hannah Eve’s debut album has hit #1 on Beatport! I am very proud to have helped her to achieve this milestone, alongside Phil Tangent. But the fact that it has happened today is even more special…..

‘For Sam’ is a tribute to Hannah’s best friend Sam. The classical music you hear in the introduction is Hannah singing in a church. She was supposed to be singing with Sam but tragically he passed away two days before the concert. Hannah decided she wanted to go ahead with the performance, and with the help of her teacher accompanying her she got through the concert with as she described it “tears streaming down my face”.

When she asked me to get on board with her album project she sent me the recording and asked me to try to make this song work in a Drum & Bass track. I love combining classical/orchestral elements with DnB, although I’ll be honest when she told me the story behind the music I was feeling the pressure to make it really special. Once I had got the drop down I was happy, and after playing it at a few gigs I knew we had something powerful on our hands. I am glad people seem to agree!

Fast forward to today, and thanks to all you lovely people supporting us we have gone to the #1 spot on Beatport’s Top 100 Releases chart. The reason it is so special that it happened today?

Today is the 5th anniversary of Sam’s death. I am so proud to have helped Hannah create this beautiful tribute to her friend.
